Science fun in first grade

Our first graders are diving into an exciting science unit all about plants and animals!

In the classroom, students have been busy planting seeds in cups and watching them sprout and grow. Through hands-on observation, they’re learning about the basic needs of plants and exploring their different parts.

As part of their animal studies, students will choose an animal to research. They’ll use the reading skills they've built this year to read an informational text about their chosen animal. Then, using the facts they learn, they will plan and write an informative piece about their animal.

To wrap up this exciting unit, they will be taking a field trip to Big Run Wolf Ranch. This visit will give students the opportunity to see real animals up close and build on all they’ve learned in class with an unforgettable, real-world experience.
