First graders prepare for spring concert

First grade students at Coal City Early Childhood Center are preparing for their spring concert and they have called on a group of high school students to join them on the stage for a relaxing lullaby.

The title of the April 9 concert is “What do you do at Night?” and the music, selected by the students, corresponds to things they do at night including gaze at the moon, imagine scary things, pick up their messes,  and relax with a lullaby.

Coal City High School band members Rhaina Vanek, clarinet; Sam Vota, flute; Abby Kodat, trumpet, and Martin Ramirez on tuba will contribute on a piece the students will sing titled “Variations on a Theme by Gabriel Faure.”

Additional pieces to be presented include “The Star Spangled Banner,” “Tango Teddy,” “Full Moon Risin,” “Spooky Night,” and “Clean My Room.”

The 130 first graders are directed by music instructor Ann Kodat and the concert title by a submission of Braylee Newman, a student in Mrs. Rhodes and Mrs. Phillips class.

The concert will be held in the Coal City Performing Arts Center at Coal City High School beginning at 6:30 p.m.
