Classes cancelled for Wednesday, Jan. 17

January 16, 2024

Parents/Guardians,

On Monday, January 15, 2024, the main office at Coal City Middle School had a sprinkler pipe burst. This caused the office area to be flooded and damaged. Water also made its way into the commons area, some Encore classrooms, and some of the 6th grade classrooms. Servpro Commercial and Residential Restoration Services were hired to handle the mitigation.

The district has a plan in place to help accommodate the displaced office and classrooms where needed. At this time, we do not anticipate any changes to the normal school day.

Despite the quick response, the building will not be ready for students to return on Wednesday, January 17. This will allow Servpro, our maintenance, and custodial staff time to continue restoration/cleanup to ensure a safe environment for students and staff to return on Thursday. All after school activities will continue as scheduled.

Educationally yours,

Christopher T. Spencer Superintendent
Coal City School District #1
