Grandparents' Day at Coal City Early Childhood Center

Students at Coal City Early Childhood Center are celebrating Grandparents this week by inviting their grandparents and other special people in their life to join them in the classroom.

The celebration started on Monday as students of Mrs. Haab, Mrs. Wren, Miss Jackman, Mrs. Wilkinson and Mrs. Owensby welcomed their special visitors. Pre-K students are also participating. The students were able to show their guests around the classroom, play games, sing songs and make crafts.

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation designating the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents’ Day. The purpose is to not only honor grandparents, but to make young people aware of the information, guidance and care their grandparents and grandfriends can provide, as well as the important role they play in their lives.

The celebration will continue at the Early Childhood Center throughout the week.
