Mrs.S's Kindergarten Co-taught Classroom
I am a co-teacher along with Mrs. Duffy in our co-taught kindergarten inclusion classroom. Inclusion is another term for "mainstreaming," or merging special education with regular education classes. The goal of inclusion is for all children with disabilities to attend "typical" school and classroom and receive the support they need to be successful. This type of classroom setting has many benefits for both students with and without special needs. Benefits for students without disabilities include building friendships with increased appreciation and acceptance of individual differences and understanding diversity. Students that have an Individualized Education Plan will be exposed to the general education curriculum with adaptations to meet individual needs, increased social interaction experiences, and peer role modeling for academic, social and behavior skills.
